Crafting an Efficient Worktable with T-Slotted Aluminum Framing

Posted by Shelby Yates on

When it comes to designing functional and versatile workspaces, the 80/20 T-slotted aluminum framing system is our go-to choice. In this blog post, we'll take you through the journey of how we used this incredible material to create a stylish and practical worktable complete with drawers and our unique hexagon light above.

The Power of 80/20 T-Slotted Aluminum Framing

The 80/20 T-slotted aluminum framing system is like the LEGO of the industrial world. It offers the flexibility to design and build structures tailored to your specific needs. We decided to harness the power of this system to construct a worktable that would not only serve as a functional workspace but also add a touch of sophistication to our showroom. 1.5” x 1.5” lite (1515-LITE-BLACK) profiles were used throughout which provided and easy to work with profile size but still added plenty of strength.

Designing the Worktable

Our first step was to draft a simple design plan. We sketched out the dimensions, considering the available space and what we will want to do on the table. The beauty of T-slotted aluminum framing is its adaptability. We could easily customize the size and shape of the table to fit our workspace requirements with the ability to adjust later if those needs change.

 Assembling the Frame

With our design in hand, we sourced the necessary 80/20 aluminum extrusions and parts. Assembly was a breeze. The T-slots allowed us to connect the pieces securely using simple nuts and bolts. No welding or complicated tools required. It was a bit like assembling a giant, sturdy puzzle.

Black Anodized Finish

To give our worktable a sleek and professional appearance, we opted for a black anodized finish. The anodization process not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also adds a layer of protection to the aluminum. This ensures that our worktable will look good and stand up to the test of time.

Adding Drawers for Organization

A clutter-free workspace is essential for productivity. We integrated drawers into our worktable design, making it easy to keep our tools and materials organized. Again, the T-slotted system came to the rescue. We could attach drawer slides and panels directly to the frame, creating a seamless and functional storage solution.

Table Top

We topped the frame with 2” quartz top which needed almost 8 people to set in place. No bolts were used to connect, instead we used PN 12006 Rubber Tread Strips laid out on top which provided plenty of friction to hold the heavy quartz top in place.

Illuminating with Our Hexagon Light

One of the highlights of our showroom is the hexagon-shaped light fixture we incorporated into the design to fit with the workstation. It not only provides ample illumination for our showroom but also serves as a unique and eye-catching element. The T-slots allowed us to securely mount the light fixture and wood frame without compromising aesthetics.

The Final Result

The end result of our efforts was a stunning worktable for our showroom that seamlessly blended functionality and style. The black anodized finish gave it a modern, professional look, while the drawers and hexagon light added practicality and character.

Our experience with the 80/20 T-slotted aluminum framing system in creating this worktable was nothing short of exceptional. It allowed us to bring our design ideas to life quickly and exactly to our specifications. If you're looking to enhance your workspace with a touch of elegance and functionality, we highly recommend considering this versatile material for your next project. Whether it's a worktable, shelving unit, or any other structure, the 80/20 T-slotted aluminum framing system has the flexibility and durability to get the job done.
